PARAPHRASING IN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY ASSIGNMENT AT ENGLISH EDUCATION DEPARTMENT OF UNIVERSITAS MUHAMMADIYAH YOGYAKARTA
Abstract
Paraphrasing is one of the techniques in writing in order to modify the original information from the sources by write’ own knowledge without losing the aim of the contents’ sources. This research aimed to analyze the students’ paraphrasing techniques in writing annotated bibliography assignment at English Education Department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. This research adopted qualitative research approach also document analysis as the design of this research. The research conducted at English Education Department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta batch 2013 from Academic Presentation class. The researcher took the 20 documents from 40 students’ pair-work in writing annotated bibliography chosen randomly from class A, B, C, D, and E in Academic Presentation class. The result showed that students in Academic Presentation class batch 2013 of EED at UMY have preference to implemented sentential paraphrase as the technique used to do paraphrasing in annotated bibliography assignment.
