dc.description.abstractOne of problems in speaking is lack of confidence. Teacher usually solves the problem by some teaching activities, such as role play. This research aimed to investigate students’ perception on the influence of role play on their speaking confidence. Descriptive qualitative method was used as the research method. The researcher interviewed five participants from English Language Education Department (ELED) in a private university in Yogyakarta batch 2017. There were four findings found in this research. The first finding was about students’ perception on the activities of role play. The activities included making group, deciding theme, making script, memorizing script, and performing role play. The second finding was about students’ perception on their feeling when doing role play. Those were feeling happy and feeling nervous. The third finding contain students’ perception on the difficulties of role play. Likewise, those difficulties were difficulty in working in group, making script, low confidence, remembering script, and pronouncing word. For the last finding, it consisted of students’ perception on the influence of role play on their speaking confidence. All of partcipants agreed that role play could give positive influence on their speaking.en_US
