THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT OF UNIVERSITAS MUHAMMADIYAH YOGYAKARTA STUDENT-TEACHERS’ MOTIVATION IN DOING THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to know the student-teachers’ motivation level and the factors that can influence student-teachers’ motivation in doing the internship program. The total samplings of this research were 131 students of batch 2014 at English Language Education Department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. This research used quantitative research and descriptive analysis to analyze the data. To get the data, the researcher distributed the questionnaire directly (face to face) to the sample. The total items of a questionnaire consisted of seventeen items. From the result, it was found out that the mean score for the whole items was 3.22 which mean that the student-teachers had high motivation in doing the internship program. In detail, the student-teachers’ intrinsic and extrinsic motivation were high in doing the internship program with mean score of 3.21. The intrinsic motivation was mostly influenced by the three factors. First, the student-teachers’ satisfaction when students understand they taught and interested with the lesson. Then, the student-teachers’ satisfaction when they can teach the students. On the other hand, extrinsic motivation factors have three dominant factors that can influence student-teachers’ motivation in doing the internship program. The factors that can influence extrinsic motivation are the student-teachers’ experiences, the student-teachers’ knowledge about teaching technique and curriculum of the school.
