dc.description.abstract | Storytelling is one of the methods that students used to improve their English
skill, but sometimes some students faced problem when they performed storytelling.
The aim of this research was to find out the student’s problems when they performed
storytelling and to know their strategies to overcome the problem at one of the junior
high schools in Panggang, GunungKidul, Yogyakarta who had storytelling as their
extracurricular activity. In conducting this research, the researcher used descriptive
qualitative method, and to collect the data the researcher used interview as the
instrument. Then the researcher selected three students in grade nine, who had been
joining the storytelling extracurricular from grade seven or eight to be participants. The
first finding of this research showed that there were five challenges that students faced
when they did storytelling. Those were forgetting the next story, getting difficulty in
expressing, and being nervous. The second finding of this research was about the
strategy that the students used to overcome the problem. There were five strategies that
the researcher finds from interviewing the students. Those are asking friend for the next
word, memorizing the story, doing more practice, learning to express the character of
the story, and the last is using mini notes. | en_US |
